Types of Wood Flooring – Explore the Diversity

All of the options we offer are classified as Engineered Wood, which is constructed from a real wood top layer with plywood underneath to enhance the stability of the plank. There are wood planks to fit a variety of budgets.


There are various thicknesses of engineered wood, generally ranging from 14mm to 22mm. All of these planks can either be fully bonded or pinned but nothing thicker than 15mm should be fitted on underlay to form a floating floor.

The most common wood used for flooring is oak but maple, beech and walnut are also pretty common.


There are a variety of options to finish the wood. An oiled finish offers a more of a matt option and a lacquered finish tends to be slightly harder wearing. How many times can wood flooring be sanded?

This depends on the wear layer of the planks and the general maintenance of the floor itself. With a 6mm wear layer it is possible to sand the floor on 3 separate occasions.
